Young Marines Golf Tournament a Huge Success

Young Marines Golf TournamentThe Young Marines, a national youth organization, hosted its annual golf tournament on Monday, September 26, 2016, at the Medal of Honor Golf Course at Marine Corps Base, Quantico, Virginia.

For more than a decade, vendors who are in town for the Modern Day Marine Expo, Marine Corps League members, and supporters of the Young Marines have been playing golf to raise funds for the 501c(3) youth education and service program for boys and girls.

A sold out event of 144 golfers joined celebrity spokesperson for the Young Marines -'Gunny' R. Lee Ermey at the Par 72 golf course. Ermey is best known for his role as Gunnery Sergeant Hartman in "Full Metal Jacket." 

Other notable golfers on the course were Gene Overstreet, the 12th Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps; Michael Barrett, 17th Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps; Ronald L. Green, 18th Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps; actors Scott Levy and Lesli Kay; and singer Dave Bray, ambassadors for the Young Marines.

Congratulations to Team Brennan for winning first place with a score of 50. Team Brennan consists of Col Terry Brennan (USMC/Ret), Gardner Britt, Jack Mencia, and Bruce Ehrensaal.

The Young Marines is a national non-profit 501c(3) youth education and service program for boys and girls, age eight through the completion of high school. The Young Marines promotes the mental, moral and physical development of its members. The program focuses on teaching the values of leadership, teamwork and self-discipline, so its members can live and promote a healthy, drug-free lifestyle.

Since the Young Marines' humble beginnings in 1959 with one unit and a handful of boys, the organization has grown to 280 units with 7,000 youth and 2,500 adult volunteers in 40 states, the District of Columbia and Okinawa with affiliates in other countries.
