Angela M. Maness named to Board of Directors of the Young Marines

Angela M. Maness of San Antonio, TexasThe members of the board of directors of the Young Marines, a national non-profit youth education and service program for boys and girls, announce a new board member – Angela M. Maness of San Antonio, Texas.

“Angela served in a variety of leadership roles during her three decades of illustrious service to Country and Corps,” said William Smith, chairman of the board of directors of the Young Marines. “In addition, she is energetically engaged in volunteer work with the Young Marines in Texas, and she understands the mission and values of the Young Marines’ program.”

She serves as the Senior Vice Commandant of her Marine Corps League Detachment and gaining nonprofit experience as the 1st Vice President of the Women Marines Association.

“I am humbled by this appointment and look forward to volunteering my time, energy, and enthusiasm,” Maness said.

Sergeant Major Maness joined the Marine Corps in 1987, and she continued training at Camp Johnson, North Carolina. Upon completion of administrative school, she was assigned to Headquarters and Service Battalion, Quantico, Virginia. Her active duty service included multiple assignments in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Sergeant Major Maness’s personal decorations include the Legion of Merit with gold star, Meritorious Service Medal with two gold stars, Navy Commendation Medal with two gold stars, and the Navy Achievement Medal with two gold stars.

Maness retired as the Depot Sergeant Major at Marine Corps Recruit Depot / Eastern Recruiting Region, Parris Island, SC. She is pursuing her degree at San Antonio College and will transfer to Texas A & M in the fall of 2019.

Maness joins Chairman Bill Smith and Young Marines board members including, Vice Chairman Richard Yoder, Treasurer Melissa Crane, Secretary Tom Craig Esq., General Counsel David Jonas, National Executive Director and CEO Bill Davis, and Marine Corps League Liaison James Laskey. Additional board directors are William Walker, Andre D. Hollis, Sheryl Murray, SgtMaj Gene Overstreet, Angela Salinas, and Howard Snow.

The Young Marines is a national non-profit 501c (3) youth education and service program for boys and girls, ages eight through the completion of high school. The Young Marines promotes the mental, moral and physical development of its members. The program focuses on teaching the values of leadership, teamwork and self-discipline, so its members can live and promote a healthy, drug-free lifestyle.
